Angela Chang Speaks Out On How Her Mother’s Betrayal Has Changed Her — “My Inner Little Princess Has Died”
Angela Chang is undeniably one of the biggest Mandopop names for fans born in the 90s, ever since the 40-year-old singer-actress’ debut in iconic Taiwanese dramas My MVP Valentine and At Dolphin Bay.
Yet despite the fame, her career was definitely not smooth sailing at all.

Even her closest ones were dying to bring her down
In 2009, Angela's name was dragged through the mud after her mother, Jiang Rouyi, accused her of being an unfilial daughter. To make matters worse, her father, Zhang Zhihong, and maternal uncle, Jiang Lile, defamed her in support of her mother.
To defend herself, Angela held a press conference where she claimed that her mum had squandered millions of her income. But that didn't help much.
With the media's relentless coverage of her family's ugly money matters, Angela had no choice but to lay low for a really long time, which later exacerbated her next turmoil — a dispute with her former label, Linfair Records, due to their lack of support for the star during her family feud.
In 2020, Angela was ordered to pay a total of NT$4,762,716 (about S$226,000) to Linfair Records, and her management agency, Qing Tian, in compensation for breach of contract after she requested for a contract termination.

She's basically done
After nearly a decade, Angela has finally made her comeback and has been mainly participating in music variety shows in China.
In the latest season of variety show The Treasured Voice, in which Angela has been a fixed cast member for the past three seasons, she spoke about how the betrayal from her family back in the day has changed her entirely.
When asked about her personality, Angela shared that she's quite a strong person. "My life story is more unique; I've been supporting my family since I was young. Even before I was 15, all my time was spent working."
As the eldest child in the family, she had to share the responsibility of supporting her younger siblings as well.
The singer shared that her ideal life is to be “happy, with all things pink and rosy, like a little princess”. “But my inner little princess has died" long ago, and the "whole world knows that,” Angela ruefully confessed.
Angela admitted her public dispute with her family has changed her, making her not only a strong person, but she’s learnt how to be firm as well.

She's definitely learnt to Walk Through the Rain
“Life won't always turn out the way you wish for it to happen, but you can choose to have a positive outlook, then you’ll be able to see the beautiful version of yourself,” she elaborated.
