To shoot upcoming Toggle web-series The Distance Between, a coming-of-age tale about three pals on a self-discovery road trip, Shane zipped around Australia with Chantalle Ng (middle) and Richie Koh for six weeks. “I really recommend driving around Australia. We drove from Western Australia to Adelaide and then to Queensland. And we stayed in different places, like caravan parks and small motels. There are small scenic spots along the way, like The Pinnacles, Nature’s Window and the Pink Lake. One night, we were at this caravan park at Geraldton and the power went out ’cos of a storm. So ’cos it was pitch-black, we got to see the Milky Way and our local tour guide taught me how to spot the Southern Cross, which is on the Australian flag, and the zodiac constellations. If you want to have a chill holiday, I’d definitely recommend Western Australia. And if you’re lucky like us, you can see a night sky filled with stars. Who knows, you might even see a shooting star!”

After exploring the Pinnacles, get lunch at Lobster Shack, which is a short drive away. “The lobsters are really fresh, and their fish and chips is one of the best I’ve had in Australia.”

If you want a selfie with wildlife, your best bet is Adelaide’s Kangaroo Island, where kangaroos, koalas, wombats, pelicans and more native animals roam free. “Kangaroo Island is a very nice, quiet and chill place with many scenic spots. Funnily enough, we didn’t see any kangaroos when we were there. (Laughs) We went to Seal Bay. And the seals are all over the beach. We had to make our way around them ’cos we didn’t want to disturb them in their natural habitat. That was quite memorable ’cos it was my first time getting so up-close-and-personal with seals!” Tip: The Admirals Arch viewing platform (pictured) is ideal for fur seals-watching.

Why eat tuna when you can swim with them? That was what Shane and Chantalle did at an in-sea aquarium at Victor Harbor, a small coastal town in South Australia. But as Shane found out, diving alongside Southern Bluefin Tuna, nicknamed “Ferraris of the ocean”, in the deep blue sea is not for the faint-hearted. “We had to swim with the tuna while feeding them sardines. That was pretty scary ’cos the tuna were really huge. I remember I was holding on to sardines to feed them and those huge tuna would just zip past us very quickly and gobble the sardines in our hands. At one point, I was very scared that the fishes would chomp my fingers off! (Laughs)” Those less adventurous can settle for feeding the fish on dry land. You can also enjoy the scenery of marine life in the underwater observatory or fondle aquatic animals like lobsters, abalones and sea urchins at the touch tank. [Photo Credit: Oceanic Victor]

Be transported back to the 1920s when you step into grand old dame The Majestic Theatre, the world's oldest silent film theatre. The iconic Queensland attraction is where silent movie meets live music, thanks to their resident piano player. “It’s pretty cool ’cos they play silent movies like Charlie Chaplin films, but this old guy [Christopher Rose] plays the piano during the movie, which brings the mood up!”

To shoot a few action scenes for their drama, Shane and Chantalle hopped onto a dune buggy or ATV and scaled the Lancelin Sand Dunes in Western Australia. “That was fun ’cos I’ve never had a chance to ride an ATV along the coast. We rode the ATV at 60 or 70km per hour. And the waves were coming in and the wind was blowing in our faces. It really felt like an adventure!”

Dubbed Willy Wonka’s Wine Factory, this new winery restaurant d'Arenberg Cube in McLaren Vale, Adelaide, houses a cellar door, a fine dining restaurant and trippy art installations in one neat architectural wonder. “This winery is so quirky that it feels like a museum. The space is decked out with wacky art-pieces. And the urinals in the toilets are designed to look like clowns and jokers.”

The wine is also really good and the food is not bad. You can also make your own wine by blending or mixing. It’s like a science experiment — you try blending the taste that you like the most. And at the end of it, they will make a bottle of it for you to bring home.”
