China Reportedly Banning Celebs From Posting Selfies On Public Holidays & Their Diet Plans On Weibo

The list of restricted Weibo content is puzzling, to say the least.

A lot has been going in China’s showbiz industry these days: from the casual blacklisting of celebs to the blanket ban on “sissy and effeminate” male stars.

Over the weekend, there were reports that the Chinese government has started cracking down on the “unhealthy lifestyle habits” of celebs, and what they post on Weibo will allegedly be heavily restricted soon.

According to these reports, the Cyberspace Administration of China invited 50 of the most popular artistes and their respective teams to a symposium recently, where they were briefed on the new policies.

While these policies have yet to be made public, inside sources have revealed what they claim to be the new rules.

Diet plans, tips on how to pose in photos, along with extreme grandstanding , such as taking part in the ‘Manhua Waist Challenge’ or showing off one's excessive weight loss, are among the list of banned content.

Artistes will only be allowed to share content that “show their personal strengths [and] business acumen”.

Posts promoting dramas or movies that the celebs are involved in must also be “based on the project”, and “irrelevant content” must not be included.

Posts published on holidays are subject to further restrictions. For example, selfies and photos of landscapes cannot be uploaded on those days.

In short, the authorities hope that celebs will be “low-key” in whatever they do, and violating these rules could result in them being removed from all search rankings, or in the case of serious cases, blacklisted.
