Chinese Actor Xiao Shenyang’s Daughter, Whom Netizens Once Called “The Ugliest Celeb Kid”, Is Now Described As “Gong Hyo Jin Lookalike”
When Chinese actor Xiao Shenyang appeared on the parent-child-themed variety show The First Time in 2014, he took daughter Jiarun, then eight, along with him. Some netizens, however, found it fit to criticise the child’s looks and started calling her “the ugliest celeb kid”.
The comments got so bad the 41-year-old actor once confessed that he regretted putting his daughter on the show. “I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not handsome. Many bored netizens have attacked my daughter, and criticised her looks,” Shenyang said, admitting that their words really angered him.
Jiarun however, proved to be a thoughtful and sweet kid at a young age as she has been quoted saying: “I resemble my dad [and] I’m very proud of it.”

Netizens are now raving about her looks
Fast forward eight years and netizens are now changing their tune. After Shenyang posted a recent pic of his daughter, who turns 16 next month, many have praised her “glow up”.
While some commented that Jiarun has “changed a lot”, others also took a jab at those who called her ugly all those years ago. “Those who criticised her looks in the past; are they regretting it now?” wrote one netizen.
She doesn't mind looking like dad at all
Jiarun has been active on her social media since 2018, and often posts clips of herself acting silly and dancing. She once posted a vid of herself comparing her looks to a pic of her dad and joked that they looked exactly the same.
It seems that the happy-go-lucky teen has also inherited her dad’s humorous personality, which has helped her amass 360k followers on her social media account.
After looking at her recent pic, many have said that Jiarun is now a “beauty with personality”, while others have commented that she looks like a young version of Korean actress Gong Hyo Jin.
