Chinese Actress Li Xiaolu Criticised By Netizens For Being Too Inappropriately Dressed When Visiting Temple In Yunnan

It’s safe to say that Chinese actress and Golden Horse Award winner Li Xiaolu, 39, is not the most popular celeb with netizens these days.

In 2019, a video of Xiaolu and Chinese rapper PG One kissing and engaging in other intimate, couple-like behavior was leaked. It followed an incident in 2017, where she was also photographed kissing PG One and suspected to be having an affair.

Xiaolu was married to Chinese actor Jia Nailiang at that time, and they have a nine-year-old daughter together.

Xiaolu and Nailang then announced the news of their divorce just a month after the scandal, which proved to be detrimental to Xiaolu’s public image. She has since been taking a break from the spotlight and is reportedly “semi-retired”.

However, it did not stop her from being under the scrutiny of many netizens. In 2020, she received flak for not being “modest” and “dignified” enough on social media, and was told my many to “act her age”.

Xiaolu visited Xishuangbanna, a prefecture known for its temples and rainforests

Recently, Xiaolu has once again incurred the ire of netizens because of the way she dressed when visiting a temple in Yunnan.

Posting pictures from her visit to the temple, Xiaolu wrote: “The prejudice in people’s hearts is like a tall mountain… [It’s more important to] cultivate ourselves, and the light will eventually shine down on us. Live intently and indiscriminately [and] face everything positively.”

Despite her inspired caption, many only took notice of what she was wearing in the pictures. Xiaolu could be seen wearing a tube top, made from wrapping a long scarf around her torso. The outfit showed off her slim figure and seemed to keep her cool in the hot Yunnan weather.

Temple visit or photoshoot?

Netizens took to her comments section to berate her, telling her how she was “too skimpily and inappropriately” dressed at a temple. Some also said that it was not right to visit a temple while wearing shorts and mini-skirts, while adding that she shouldn’t be taking photos.

“You’re sure you’re there [to cultivate yourself] and not to pose for photos?” one netizen wrote. Others also chimed in on how “embarrassing” her attire was.

Netizens were unhappy with how she dressed

However, this time, many locals and visitors of the area came to Xiaolu’s defense. “As a local, I don’t see what’s wrong, everyone dresses like that in the first place,” one wrote.

“Girls [here] dress like that too” and “You guys are really trying too hard to drag her name through the mud” were also some comments left by other netizens who were in support of Xiaolu’s dressing.
