Chinese Host He Jiong Seen Crying On Zhou Xun's Shoulder; Netizens Speculate It’s ‘Cos Of His Recent Controversies

A video of Chinese host He Jiong apparently overcome with emotion at the Wuzhen Theatre Festival were posted online on October 24. And no, it’s not ‘cos the 47-year-old won an award or anything.

According to reports, He Jiong was at a dinner gathering where he was seated at the same table as Chinese actress Zhou Xun, 47, and Chinese actor Huang Lei, 49.

Then, after a couple of drinks, He Jiong suddenly burst into tears.

In the video, He Jiong can be seen burying his face into Zhou Xun's shoulder, while Huang Lei pats his back.

Reports described Zhou Xun's behaviour as that of a “kind older sister” who asked for tissue to wipe He Jiong’s tears as she comforted him.

The video ignited a great deal of discussion online, with some netizens explaining that the host is apparently an emotional drunk.

These netizens shared that He Jiong once revealed on a show that he used to fall asleep immediately after drinking too much, but in recent times, he started crying or getting emotional after drinking.

Other netizens speculated that it might be due to stress.

According to them, He Jiong has been caught up in multiple controversies in the past year. First, his love life was thrown into the public spotlight after he was seen behaving very affectionately with a mystery man.

Then, he was slammed for not making good on his promise to make a 800,000 yuan (S$162K) donation to provide scholarships for the students of Beijing Foreign Studies University.

And then, it was reported that the long-running variety show Happy Camp, which propelled He Jiong to stardom, was suspended for “upgrading and further improvement”.

Finally, reports recently surfaced alleging that He Jiong’s father had defaulted on his payment after taking out a loan.

While He Jiong has not addressed his emotional outburst yet, a day after the pictures of him crying went viral, the host wrote this post on Weibo.

“[I’m] already looking forward to my next project. Thankful for the project,[and] to Wuzhen. See you next year.
