Chinese Reality Show Back To Field, Where Stars Have To Do Their Own Chores, Called Fake After ‘Cleaning Auntie’ Was Spotted On Screen
Chinese reality show Back to Field revolves around stars He Jiong, Lay Zhang, actors Huang Lei and Peng Yuchang and actress Wendy Zhang, moving to a rural part of Xiangxi in the Hunan province to experience life in the most basic of ways, like farming and cooking their own food, building their own furniture and cleaning up after themselves.
The show, which is now in its sixth season, very quickly won the hearts of viewers, who delighted in seeing these stars away from the glitz and glamour of showbiz, all while doing all their chores without the help of their assistants or helpers.
Or so we think.
Recently, there are reports claiming that the stars didn't actually go back to basics for the show, sparking disappointment among their loyal fans.
Or is Huang Lei the "cleaning auntie"?
Apparently, an eagle-eyed viewer said that when the camera filmed Huang Lei walking into the kitchen, it accidentally captured a lady, who’s not part of the cast, cleaning up next to the sink.
Subsequently, a netizen who allegedly lives near where the show is filmed, claimed: “It is shot near my house, and my mum said [they] hired two aunties to wash the dishes.”
Since then, many netizens have started to turn against the show, with one saying “No wonder it’s not nice to watch anymore. They don’t even do their own dishes. It’s all for show.”
Another sharp netizen pointed out, “That's why every time [they] finish [their] meals, [they] would go to another room to chat and play games. When they get up the next day, everything is clean and tidy again.”
One netizen also poked fun at the show, saying “This is the life I’m yearning for! To have someone wash my dishes for me.”
Who should be arrowed to do the dishes then?
Even though the show has yet to respond to the allegations, one of Back To Field's directors, Zhang Hang Xi, seemingly refuted the rumours when he wrote on Weibo: “Cleaning lady? Are they talking about me?"
