Coconut & Pandan Gelato For You, Beef Popsicle For Your Pup At New Gelateria

Coconut & Pandan Gelato For You, Beef Popsicle For Your Pup At New Gelateria

Pet-friendly café Mylo’s at Gardens By The Bay boasts over 20 flavours of gourmet gelato created by the head chef of fine-diner, Pollen.

Mylo’s, recently rebranded from what used to be Fennel Café Active Garden, is a roomy 75-seater café that now comes with a focus on all things gelato.

Expect over 20 flavours churned onsite and stored in a traditional pozzetti display (sealed stainless steel buckets in a cold well to better maintain the creamy integrity of the dessert). Also available are bakes and beverages – booze included.

1 of 7 The ‘churner-in-chief’ is Pollen’s exec chef Michael Wilson

Mylo’s head honcho is Michael Wilson (left in pic), the Australian executive chef of mod European restaurant Pollen (currently under renovation, to be relaunched as a new fine-dining concept with a yet-to-be-revealed name). He also heads Hortus, the new restaurant that will be taking over casual garden-themed eatery Fennel Café Flower Dome.

All three concepts – the revamped Pollen, Hortus and Mylo’s – are co-owned by Chef Michael in partnership with restaurant group Unlisted Collection, whose portfolio includes many of Singapore’s swishiest joints like three-Michelin-starred Restaurant Zen.

Head gelato chef Ee Wei Lynn (right), whose resume includes a six-month gelato and pastry-making internship in Italy and most recently, a six-month stint at Hvala as pastry chef, runs daily operations at Mylo’s.

  • 2 of 7 Mylo’s named after Michael’s dog

Pictured here is the chef’s adorable four-year-old golden retriever whom he has named the gelato café after. We guess every day is bring your dog to work day at Mylo's.

  • 3 of 7 The look

The decor hasn’t changed much from back when it was known as Fennel Café Active Garden, with wooden and rattan elements illuminated by natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows. Folks with pets should head to the outdoor terrace, where there’s substantial alfresco seating adjacent to the gardens.

  • 4 of 7 All gelato and sorbet churned on-site

Mylo’s gelato is churned onsite from “a base of French cream and high-quality milk”, the press release states, without any added “additives and preservatives”. Seasonal flavours – more than 20 are available at any one time – include classic Chocolate gelato made with 66 percent Valrhona choc, Coconut and Pandan gelato, plus Apple Pie, a rendition of the pastry in gelato form, complete with pie crust, spiced apples and crumble.

For the adventurous, there’s Pineapple gelato infused with Szechuan peppercorns, or the prosecco-spiked Jasmine Oolong and Passionfruit gelato. For the really adventurous, Mylo’s serves the gourmet-sounding Smoked Maple Bacon, which comprises bacon-infused milk and maple syrup churned, then smoked with apple wood chips.

A single scoop goes for $5, while a double costs $8. There’s also an option of getting your frozen treat in a house-made waffle cone ($2 extra) or sandwiched in a toasted brioche bun for $8. If you’d like something more substantial, pastries, tarts and panini sandwiches are up for grabs, baked fresh daily and delivered from a central kitchen in the Flower Dome.

  • 5 of 7 Coffee and Campari available with your cones

Drinks-wise, the café serves java by local roasters PPP Coffee, a selection of tea and other light refreshments. Or grab some booze like the Aperol and Campari Spritz ($10) and a bottle of Mythos Beer ($8).

  • 6 of 7 Doggy treats

Doggos too can enjoy baked pup-friendly biscuits ($2) and popsicles in both savoury and sweet flavours like Chicken & Beef Bone Broth and Yoghurt & Mango ($5). We’re told your pup’s first biscuit is on the house.
