Did TVB Sitcom Come Home Love: Lo And Behold Predict The Future With Its Ep Involving A Hamster?

Long-running animated series The Simpsons seemingly has the uncanny ability of predicting the future — from Donald Trump’s presidency to COVID-19 (sort of) — and it looks like it may not be the only one.

On Wednesday (Jan 19), TVB sitcom Come Home Love: Lo and Behold aired an episode that happened to involve… a hamster.

If you’ve been keeping up with the news, you would know that the Hongkong authorities have ordered a controversial mass culling of 2,000 hamsters after at least 11 of the rodents at a pet shop tested positive for the Delta variant.

In Come Home Love, a scammer attempts to trick Mandy Lam’s character into paying for “help” by making her believe that her brother, played by Kim Li, has been transformed into a lizard and a hamster.

“This is a reminder for everyone to be careful and not to be deceived,” Mandy, 45, explained at a Come Home Love Chinese New Year event that was also held on the 19th. “It should serve as a warning.”

The actress also explained that the hamster plot in the drama was filmed before the pet shop outbreak, so it was totally a coincidence.

“Sitcoms have always had the ability to predict the future,” quipped Mandy’s co-star Jack Hui, 38.

Netizens were completely amused by this coincidence and left comments like “Don’t turn into a hamster! You will be killed by the government!”, but there were also those who urged everyone not to make jokes out of pity for the poor animals.
