Disney shelves Star Wars projects by Patty Jenkins and Kevin Feige, but is still moving forward with Taika Waititi's movie
There is a disturbance in the Force.
Per Variety, Disney has shelved two Star Wars movies — Patty Jenkins' Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and an untitled project to be produced by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige.
In December, Jenkins admitted she wasn't sure if the Rogue Squadron project "will happen or not".
She said in a statement then: "Sigh ... I’m not one to talk about private career matters, but I will not allow inaccuracies to continue. Here are the facts:
"I originally left Rogue Squadron after a long and productive development process when it became clear it couldn’t happen soon enough and I did not want to delay WW3 [Wonder Woman 3] any further.
"When I did, Lucasfilm asked me to consider coming back to RS after WW3, which I was honoured to do, so I agreed.
"They made a new deal with me. In fact, I am still on it and that project has been in active development ever since. I don’t know if it will happen or not. We never do until the development process is complete, but I look forward to its potential ahead."
There hasn't been a Star Wars movie since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. Since then, Lucasfilm has been producing Star Wars content for Disney+, including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-wan Kenobi, Andor, and The Bad Batch.
Its upcoming line-up includes the Rosario Dawson-led Ahsoka, the Jude Law-starring Skeleton Crew, and The Acolyte, featuring Squid Game's Lee Jung-Jae, Carrie-Ann Moss, Amandla Stenberg in the cast.
Variety reported the studio will unveil its movie plans at the Star Wars Celebration convention in London the weekend of Apr 7.
Meanwhile, The Mandalorian just launched its third season, with new eps dropping every Wednesday.
