Donnie Yen shares video of his martial arts journey; already mastered the nunchucks as a teen

Hong Kong martial arts star Donnie Yen, 60, has been busy promoting John Wick 4, appearing on talk shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he answered this question: “Who would win in a fight between Donnie and Jackie Chan?”.

Donnie’s answer was a very diplomatic “I'm old, but he’s older”, addressing Jackie, 69, as his senior in martial arts.

However, he has not forgotten about his Chinese fans, taking to Weibo on April 7 to share a clip of his martial arts journey, which started when he was just 11.

Check out those fancy moves!

“My destiny changed from the time I was 11. Now, I think I’ve changed the likes and viewpoints of some people too,” he wrote in his caption.

In the video, a young Donnie can be seen wielding a pair of nunchucks confidently, like a young Bruce Lee.

We sure wouldn't want to get on Donnie's bad side.

Donnie then goes on to master other martial arts disciplines over the years, with the video showing him using a staff, as well as a broadsword.

He also shared another video of him sparring with a sandbag, landing powerful blows with his fists and feet.

He's absolutely ripped.

Netizens were super impressed by Donnie’s skills, praising the star for his fluid moves. Many added that Donnie has indeed changed their lives, and that they’re in awe of the many years he spent honing his craft.

Donnie was born in China, with his family relocating to Boston when he turned 11. His mum is a fu style wudangquan and tai chi grandmaster, who taught martial arts in Boston, and eventually founded the Chinese Wushu Research Institute in Massachusetts.

Donnie began his training in martial arts at a young age under the watchful eye of his mother, and has stated that he regards Bruce Lee as his idol.
