Edwin Goh, Who Doesn’t Like Pineapple Tarts, Says He’s Done Eating The CNY Snack For The Next Few Years After Filming Mediacorp Drama Strike Gold

If you have a soft spot for pineapple tarts, then new Mediacorp drama Strike Gold will hit all the right spots for you, all thanks to the close-up shots of those buttery CNY treats baked by Jin Yinji's character Dudu Ma.

And believe it or not, those pineapple tarts, called 'Ah Ma's Pineapple Tarts', on the show, taste just as good in real life.

At the drama's press conference last month, 8days.sg was given a tub of Ah Ma's Pineapple Tarts and let's just say, it was unputdownable.

Clearly the cast of Strike Gold must feel so lucky to get to stuff their faces with the tarts every day at work, right?

Well, not Edwin Goh.

We'd be so happy if we were Edwin

Last week, the 28-year-old actor took to his Instagram story to share that he's "eaten more pineapple tarts in this show than [his] entire life."

When 8days.sg reached out to Edwin to find out exactly how many pineapple tarts he had to eat for the show, he said: "A lot eh. I mean, in comparison to my real life, it's a lot 'cos I don't eat pineapple tarts. I'm not really into sweet stuff in general. (laughs)"

So what does Edwin like to eat during Chinese New Year?

"I used to eat savoury stuff like hae bi hiam, but usually not a lot either 'cos you know when we're filming we need to maintain our figure so I naturally stay away from them. Even my coffee has no sugar," he added.

Can you spot the adorable Ah Ma faces on the pineapple tarts?

But just look at how mouth-watering those coin-shaped pineapple tarts are, how could anyone possibly resist them?

"It's kind of cute so all the more I wouldn't eat it (laughs)," joked Edwin.

That said, at least the unique shape of the tarts did help to make them more palatable for the actor, who really doesn't like how traditional pineapple tarts look.

"At first I was kind of nervous [about having to eat them] 'cos usually the fillings are on top right, and I always hated the look of it. But thankfully the pineapple tarts in the show are shaped differently. And I mean people have eaten worse stuff for shows so I shouldn't be complaining. (laughs)"

Mmm... yummy

"My character likes to steal a few pineapple tarts whenever my grandma in the show makes them, so sometimes there are multiple angles and takes and I end up eating quite a few. I was just eating it over and over again. Oh my god it was so much," he recalled.

"Sometimes the crew would let me spit it out but I'll just throw the remaining away 'cos I don't want to spit out my food. It's a bit gross and it seems ungrateful (laughs)."

It goes without saying, Edwin avoided pineapple tarts during his recent Chinese New Year celebrations.

"I ate my quota [of pineapple tarts] for the next few years already," he laughed.
