Ex-Energy member Milk, who left showbiz 18 years ago, is now the CEO of 3 companies

Last year, the members of now-defunct Taiwanese boyband Energy teased their fans, who have been hankering for a reunion, by posting a welfie to celebrate their 20th anniversary.

Then last Sunday (Apr 2), the band surprised their fans by appearing on stage at Mayday's concert at the Kaohsiung National Stadium.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the group's five original members, Chang Shuwei, 42, Kunda Hsieh, 41, Edy Hsiao, 40, Milk Yeh, 43, and Toro Kuo, 41, perform their 2002 hit song ‘Fang Shou' together with the Taiwanese rock band.

The last time the OG five were seen on stage together was in 2003, before Toro and Milk left the group in 2003 and 2005 respectively.

The band, which added a new member Xiao Gang in mid-2007, officially disbanded in 2009.

Mayday X Energy: A collaboration of the century

After the show, the group's de facto leader, Milk took to his Facebook to share his thoughts about their long-awaited reunion.

For those who don't know, the singer left the group in 2005 to pursue his dreams as a dancer. He went on to start his own dance company and artiste management agency. In 2019, Milk ventured into filmmaking and co-founded film company Eurasian Magpie Movie.

In his post, Milk shared that it wasn't easy for the group of five to come together again and that it was Toro who arranged the reunion.

"From the costumes to scheduling, [choosing the] songs and photoshoots, it was a thankless and tough job," he said.

Milk also said that everyone really put in effort to make time for rehearsals, especially Kunda and Shuwei, who had packed schedules.

It's how they all managed to pull off their signature back flips. Not an easy feat given how all of them are already in their 40s.

He also thanked Edy for still sounding like how he did two decades ago.

"Thank you Ah Di for your voice that's still as great as before. Hearing you sing was such an enjoyment," he effused.

Milk and his wife Yang Chung Wen

Milk  didn't forget to thank his wife Yang Chung Wen and their six-year-old son, for being by his side during this period.

"I want to thank my wife for giving me so much support and encouragement, and for preparing delicious healthy meals for me recently. Thank you to my beloved child for giving me strength. Daddy's put in his greatest effort and hopes to become your role model," he said.

Milk has been very low-profile about his wife and his son

Here's a fun fact: Did you know Milk got his start in showbiz as Jolin Tsai and Aya Liu's background dancer?

He was later scouted by a record label, and debuted as a member of Energy in 2002. Back then, the boys broke the record for being the first group to hold a concert for over 10,000 fans within a month of their album's release.

Milk, however, later said that he only managed to get a taste of stardom because he'd joined the industry when boy bands were in trend.

"I wasn't emotionally or mentally prepared then, It felt like I was at the ground floor of the Taipei 101 and [my popularity] skyrocketed all the way to the top. But afterwards the band had quite a lot of problems internally, and we fell all the way down very quickly too," he admitted.
