Ex TVB Actor Jerry Ku Waits Tables & Makes Milk Tea At His HK-Style Eatery In China
Former TVB actor Jerry Ku (古明華), 58, was once a familiar face on TV, having acted in many dramas in the ‘90s and noughties, mostly in supporting roles.
He is best known for his turn as So Gay in 2012 comedy Divas in Distress, which won him Best Supporting Actor at the TVB Anniversary Awards.
Jerry, who is also a voice actor, left the Hong Kong broadcaster in 2020 after 26 years to focus on his career in China.
He's now the boss of a cha chaan teng
Recently, a netizen bumped into Jerry at a Hong Kong-style eatery in Jiangmen and posted pics with the star.
She said the actor was very friendly and happily obliged to her photo request.
According to reports, Jerry owns the eatery which specialises in cha chaan teng nosh.
He opened it last year and prices are said to be very affordable, ranging between 10 to 20 yuan (around S$2-S$4).
Besides actively promoting his eatery on social media, the hands-on towkay is often seen helping out, waiting tables and making milk tea.
And if you’re lucky, you can even catch him sing live.

Though Jerry is now based in China, he hasn’t moved there for good.
His wife and daughter still live in Hong Kong and he will return when there are jobs.

Things weren’t always smooth for Jerry.
When his daughter was 10, she was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis, which is an inflammation of the filters in the kidneys (glomeruli).
He became the sole breadwinner after a car accident left his wife with mobility problems.
To take care of his daughter’s medical expenses, which cost HK$10K (about S$1.7K) each month, he once worked non-stop for 50 hours.
It took a toll on his health and he fell sick often.
He was hospitalised for three months for tuberculosis in 2016.
