Ezra Miller makes rare public appearance since misconduct allegations at The Flash premiere

After several months of radio silence, Ezra Miller resurfaced at The Flash’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday (June 12).

According to Variety, the troubled 30-year-old actor, who is non-binary and uses they and them pronouns, thanked their bosses — including Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav and DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safra — for “your grace and discernment and care in the context of my life. And in bringing this moment to fruition.”

They also received a rockstar reception (per Variety) after being introduced by The Flash director Andy Muschietti. “I love you, maestro,” Miller said to Muschietti. “I think you’re amazing, and I think your work is monumental.”

Miller’s The Flash co-stars Ben Affleck (alongside Jennifer Lopez), Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Kiersey Clemons, Ron Livingston and Maribel Verdu showed up at the event as did Muschietti’s former collaborators Jessica Chastain (It: Chapter Two) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Mama). 00:33 Min

Miller’s PR and legal woes started in 2020 when a video seemingly depicting them choking a woman outside of a bar in Iceland circulated online. In 2022, they were arrested twice in Hawaii, once for disorderly conduct and harassment and another time for second-degree assault. Not too long later, they were charged with felony burglary for allegedly stealing bottles of alcohol from a Vermont home. The actor was also accused of grooming an 18-year-old Sioux activist.

In August 2022, Miller released a statement: “Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I want to apologise to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”

The Flash was well-received when it was screened (albeit an incomplete cut) at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and has far scored 72 percent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also got the thumbs-up from celebs such as Tom Cruise and Stephen King. The latter tweeted, “I got an advanced screening of The Flash today. As a rule, I don’t care a lot for superhero movies, but this one is special. It’s heartfelt, funny, and eye-popping. I loved it”

The Flash opens in Singapore cinemas on June 14, two days before the US.
