Fans of G.E.M & Cyndi Wang feuding online; G.E.M. fan allegedly posted funeral portrait of Cyndi on Qingming Festival

This is what happens when people take their online squabbles too far. Way too far.

April 5 this year marked Qingming Festival in China, which is traditionally a day for people to remember and honour their deceased ancestors.

And on that day, a netizen professing to be a fan of Hong Kong singer G.E.M., 31, posted a pic of Taiwanese singer Cyndi Wang photoshopped as a funeral portrait.

As it turns out, fans of G.E.M and Cyndi, 40, have been engaged in an online war of words for the past few weeks on the Baidu Tieba community, a Chinese social networking site that functions like a forum.

So uncalled for.

The feud between both camps allegedly started when a fan of Cyndi accused G.E.M. of "plagiarising foreign songs”. G.E.M.’s fans then hit back at the allegations, sparking an all-out war that soon made it’s way over to Weibo. Though there were some attempts at quelling the dispute, fans remained combative.

Eventually, thing escalated to the point where a netizen claiming to be a fan of G.E.M. uploaded the fake funeral portrait of Cyndi.

Thankfully, that post has been criticised by netizens from both sides.

What would Cyndi and G.E.M. think of this?!

Many commented that the actions of the fan would reflect badly upon G.E.M., with some adding that disputes among fans should be kept contained, and should not involve the actual artistes.

Others also added that Cyndi and G.E.M. are on good terms themselves, with G.E.M. covering Cyndi’s song on a show, and Cyndi following G.E.M. on social media too.
