First Look: Ryan Gosling As A Bleach Blonde Ken In Margot Robbie’s Barbie

Warner Bros has revealed another sneak peek at the upcoming Barbie movie — this time of Ryan Gosling as the title character’s boyfriend Ken.

The photo, released on social media on Wednesday (June 15), sees Gosling’s Ken showing off his sporting six-pack abs, bleach blonde hair, and a spray tan. He's also wearing a personalised underwear!

This is the second official still from Greta Gerwig’s live-action rom-com based on the Mattel doll to be shared following a picture of Margot Robbie as the title character in a pink convertible back in April.

Plot details of Barbie remain a mystery but co-star Simu Liu — who’s said to be playing one of the several Ken dolls in the movie — did describe to GQ UK the set as “wild” and “incredibly unique”. In another interview, Liu said he had to wax his entire body, which he called “one of the most painful experiences of my life… I have such a newfound admiration for the incredibly brave women who go through this on a monthly basis.”

The movie also stars America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Issa Rae, and Michael Cera. Little Women's Greta Gerwig is the director; she also co-wrote the script with her partner and frequent collaborator Noah Baumbach.

Gosling's other half, Eva Mendes, with whom he shares two daughters, took to Instagram to react to the photo. "So. F. Funny. So. F. Good. So F excited for you to see this," she wrote. 

Gosling will next be seen alongside Chris Evans in the Netflix actioner The Gray Man, premiering on July 22. 

Barbie opens in Singapore cinemas on July 20, 2023.
