First Street Teochew Fish Soup Opening Hougang Outlet With New $6 Batang Fish Porridge
Hougang residents have a new foodie spot to look forward to, with popular hawker chain First Street Teochew Fish Soup opening a third outlet at the Food Loft @ 21 kopitiam at Hougang Green mall. The upcoming stall, which will open for business on Dec 28, is next to Michelin Bib Gourmand-approved bak chor mee chain High Street Tai Wah Pork Noodle’s third branch (which opened in September this year).

Acquired by BreadTalk Group last year
The second generation family-run fish soup business was acquired by the BreadTalk Group in a high-profile lucrative deal last year, which 8days.sg first reported. While the figure — which was revealed to us — remains confidential, we can say that it’s an amount that can get you a terrace house with a 99-year leasehold in a quiet neighbourhood. Under the deal, the fish soup stall opened its second outlet at the Food Republic food court in BreadTalk IHQ.

Second-gen hawkers
First Street Teochew Fish Soup is currently helmed by William Lim, 65, who founded the biz in 1988, and his two sons Aaron Lim, 34, and Desmond Lim, 40. They will continue to oversee their three outlets with the help of hired cooks.

New outlet menu
According to a BreadTalk Group rep, the “menu and prices will remain the same as the original stall’s”. Which means you can look forward to the First Street’s delish Teochew-style clear fish soup that comes with three types of fish — Batang (aka Spanish mackerel, from $6), Red Garoupa (from $9) and Chinese Silver Pomfret (from $11). But there will also be a new dish offered at the Hougang branch, Batang Fish Porridge ($6).
