Located at JB’s Jalan Tan Hiok Nee (beside famed banana cake specialist Hiap Joo Bakery), the Muslim-friendly cafe is well-known for its artisanal croissants, viennoiseries and house-made bread.
Ferrero Rocher Danish
Exclusive Ferrero Rocher danish at pop-up
The Singapore pop-up runs from July 13 to 21 and offers two exclusive items, a Ferrero Rocher Danish ($6) and Lemongrass Chicken Pain Suisse ($6.80), a bookend-shaped French pastry that’s made from brioche dough and usually stuffed with something sweet like custard and chocolate.
Other than the two exclusive pastries, there are also Dona Bakehouse’s regular menu picks like Classic Croissant ($4.50), Pistachio Rose Croissant ($6.80), Raspberry Blossom Cruffin ($5.80) and Sausage Cheese Danish ($5.80).For savoury stuff, you can choose from options like Classic Lox Bagel ($12), HEC Bagel ($11) with ham, egg and cheese and AB Banana Bagel ($8) with almond butter.
8days.sg tried a fresh croissant from Dona Bakehouse in JB as a random customer over a year back, and remembered it to be buttery, crispy and really pretty darn good.
Dona Bakehouse’s celeb connection
Dona Bakehouse was founded by talented Johorian pastry chef Jasmine Teo, 28, who runs the business with her twin sister Jerlene. Incidentally, they are also local celeb and singer-actor Gavin Teo’s younger sisters. Small world or what?
For her pop-up’s duration, Jasmine will be based at Wren daily to do the baking.
Wren is owned by seafood temple Naked Finn’s founder Ken Loon, who rebranded it from another concept called Mooi Patisserie last year. “It’s very much a fun pop-up for both Dona and us,” he tells 8days.sg when we asked if Dona Bakehouse was planning to open an outlet in Singapore. So, not... yet?
As for how the collab came about, he shares: “We are constantly looking for top quality products [and] brands to do pop-ups. Jasmine is an amazing baker and we reached out to her."
Dona Bakehouse’s pop-up from July 13-21 at Wren, 438C Alexandra Rd, #01-06/07 Block C Alexandra Technopark, Singapore 119968. Open daily 8.30am-4pm or till sold out. More updates at www.instagram.com/donabakehouse and www.instagram.com/wren.singapore.
