G.E.M In Lawsuit To Recover S$3.3M Payment For Filming 4 Episodes Of Variety Show In 2016
Hong Kong singer G.E.M, 31, is in a lawsuit again, this time to recover the appearance fee owed to her for participating in Chinese variety show Heroes of Remix in 2016.
According to court documents, G.E.M’s agency at the time, Hummingbird Music (yes, the one she had a very public fall-out with), is suing Chinese production company Canxing Media after the latter failed to pay the singer 16.3 million yuan (S$3.3mil) for filming four episodes.
However, things are not so straightforward as the parties did not sign a contract.

Due to the tight filming schedule, the programme was pre-recorded, and in total, G.E.M filmed three episodes of the variety show and one for a reality show.
While there was no official contract, Hummingbird felt that since G.E.M had fulfilled her obligation, which was accepted by Canxing, it constitutes as an agreement. And by failing to make payment, Canxing had committed a breach.
The first hearing was held recently and it was ruled that as the case involves a Hong Kong company and resident, and that the disputed amount exceeds 10mil (S$2mil), the Shanghai District Court has no jurisdiction over the case. It will be handed over to the Intermediate People’s Court.
