Just like a game of broken telephone, her remark was misconstrued and the topic ‘Gigi Leung retiring from the music industry’ started to trend on Weibo as netizens bemoaned the bad news.

Gigi has since assured her fans that she's not retiring from singing with this Weibo message: “Aiyah, everyone misunderstood [what I meant]. I was asked what were my upcoming plans for my music career and I said that I liked the concept that we used for my previous albums. I also said that I wanted my next album to be perfect, and casually mentioned that it might take 10 years for me to release it.”

Gigi, who is best known for her songs like 'Short Hair' and 'Washing My Face', continued, “Even though I casually mentioned that I might only release my album a decade later, it doesn’t mean that I won’t be performing on stage in the meantime; nor will I be retiring from the music industry. Don’t worry, I still love singing very much.”
