'Has she forgotten her roots?': Yoyo Mung criticised by Chinese netizens for speaking Japanese at husband Ekin Cheng's concert

Celebrities can get slammed for doing anything these days.

Who would have thought ex-TVB actress Yoyo Mung, 49, speaking Japanese at her husband Ekin Cheng's concert would piss netizens off?

Yoyo and Ekin, 55, have never been shy about their love for the Land of Rising of Sun. They tied the knot in Tokyo in 2013 and Yoyo, who has been running her own real estate agency in Fukuoka since 2021, even lives in Japan now.

So why is it surprising that she can converse in Japanese?

Yoyo spotted at Ekin's concert in Macau

According to reports, Yoyo was at Ekin's concert at The Venetian Macau's Cotai Arena last Saturday (Apr 22).

Before the show, Yoyo had gone around the venue to greet fans.

A netizen then took to social media to share a video of Yoyo wandering around the concert venue and calling out for a person named "Aki-san", which means "Mr Aki" in Japanese.

Also, when a fan addressed Yoyo in Japanese, she replied "this" in the language before walking over to shake hands with said fan.

Was Yoyo calling out for someone in Japanese?

All that sounds perfectly normal, right? After all, Yoyo is fluent in Japanese now.

Well, apparently not to some Chinese netizens, who felt that Yoyo speaking Japanese is a sign that she has "forgotten her roots".

"Why don't you go to Japan for a concert then? Why speak Japanese in Macau?," scorned one netizen.

Another one remarked: "I stopped liking them ever since they went to Japan."

Seriously?
