'Is he Andy Lau?': Love 972 DJ Chen Biyu responds to Marcus Chin who said she’s 'waiting for [him]' when he accepted her Top 10 Award

If you caught the Star Awards last Sunday (Apr 9), you might have noticed Marcus Chin, 69, looking really out of place on stage with the winners of the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes award

He was receiving the award on behalf of his The Breakfast Quartet co-host, Love 972 DJ Chen Biyu, 56. The jock, who did not attend the ceremony, bagged her first Top 10 win that night.

Biyu was also a no-show during the Star Awards Gala Dinner on March 30, when The Breakfast Quartet won the Best Radio Programme award for the third year in a row.

Marcus, as well as Mark Lee, 54, and Dennis Chew, 49, were there to receive the award, with Mark quipping in his speech that Biyu’s absence was ‘cos she’s “in labour”.

Say what?!

Biyu's birthday is on April 4.

Though we were unable to reach Biyu as of press time, she did upload a pensive post on her Instagram this morning (Apr 11) to share her thoughts on winning... and also to throw some shade at Marcus, who joked that he doesn’t know why she’s still single, and that she might be “waiting for [him]" when he accepted the Top 10 award on her behalf.

“Serenity, to leave and ponder. To part, reorganise, and set off [on a journey]. Wednesday morning, we’ll meet again. Do note: From the very start, my original intentions have not changed. I just want to be a conscientious and happy (radio broadcaster)."

"As long as you’re willing to listen to the shows I host, it’s enough. But I still want to thank all the Love 972 listeners and friends who left comments on the socials of the radio station. Thank you everyone for your encouragement and birthday wishes. Let’s continue being friends on the airwaves, see you on Wednesday. Thank you everyone! [I’m] grateful,” she wrote.

Biyu, who joined Mediacorp in 1995, turned 56 on April 4.

Ayden and Biyu will be releasing their own podcast soon.

From her post, it's clear that Biyu's not one to chase after accolades.

That was also what fellow Top 10 winner Ayden Sng, 29, shared with us, when we spoke to him after the ceremony.

The actor had co-hosted a radio show with Biyu on LOVE 972 for three months, and the duo are currently working on a podcast together.

"She actually didn’t even ask her listeners to vote for her, but they did it. To prove to her that throughout her 30-odd years in the industry, they’ve been there for her, and they will support her. I was so happy when her name was called,” Ayden shared.

And true to what Ayden said, Biyu confirmed as much in a comment she left to a fan congratulating her on the win.

“[I do] radio not for the awards. But I still want to thank you for congratulating [me]. See you on the airwaves tomorrow morning,” she wrote.

In another reply, Biyu also threw shade at Marcus for his acceptance speech, sniping back with a simple: “Is he Andy Lau?” in reply to a netizen who asked why she was “waiting for Marcus”, and if she “really had no other choice”.

Judging from the comments, it seems like Biyu has been on leave for quite a while, and will be returning tomorrow, where she’ll share more about what she’s been up to.
