Henry Golding’s 40-Year-Old KL Apartment Had A Super Dramatic Makeover
Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding, 34, and his wife Liv Lo, 36, moved to Los Angeles in early 2020, but whenever they’re back in Malaysia, home is a 40-year-old apartment in Kuala Lumpur’s affluent Bangsar area.
Recently, a Malaysian real estate agency did a #throwback featuring photos of the place before and after it underwent renovation, and we have to say: It’s a pretty dramatic makeover.
They didn’t specify the reason for bringing up a celeb home remodelling that was completed years ago, but then again, we don’t think anyone really needs an excuse to ogle at the cribs of the rich and famous.

Henry and Liv welcomed their daughter Lyla in March last year
According to the website of MIL Design and Construction, the interior design company that worked on Henry’s place, the British-Malaysian actor requested for a space that’s “chic”, has “soul and character”, and is “not another conventional home”.
Home improvement website Recommend.my, which linked MIL Design and Construction up with Henry, described the original apartment as “dark”, with walls that were “stained” and “floor tiles and kitchen cabinets [that] looked dated”.

And you can see this from the “before” pics
MIL Design and Construction also shared about the “many challenges” they had to deal with, such as the “narrow entryway, low ceilings, noise from the elevated MRT train nearby, lack of sunlight, large beams,” and “the overall cluttered and narrow living area”.
In addition, Henry wanted an area to display his own collection of photography and artwork from around the world (as a former travel host, we’re sure he had a ton of that), as well as a “‘kitsch-industrial’ style mixed with a slight ‘brutalist’ language”.

He knew what he wanted
Photos of Henry hunched over tables and going over concept art and floor plans at the MIL Design and Construction studio show that he was a very hands-on client.
MIL said that Henry was “very involved with the design process” and even personally sketched out his ideas, which allowed the company to “design very accurately” around his and Liv’s lifestyle needs.

It’s looks like a completely different place now
The result is an airy open floor plan with ceilings stripped to show the original concrete slabs and a colour palette of white, bronze, blue, and wood tones.
While some folks love their balconies, Henry had his closed up and transformed into a cosy reading nook instead.

Perfect for chilling with a book and cup of coffee
Renovation was completed in 2017, which is also the year that Henry began filming for Crazy Rich Asians and subsequently got catapulted to Hollywood stardom, so we assume he probably hasn’t had many chances to chill in his KL pad.
It’s not clear what happens to the apartment when he’s not in town, though. Perhaps he can consider turning it into a homestay?

The bathroom got a major upgrade

And so did the kitchen

Wonder if those shelves are now full of photos of his daughter

The very showroom-worthy bedroom
