HK Actor Peter Lai Had Trouble Paying For A S$52K Medical Bill, So His “Godson” Bosco Wong Stepped In To Help

In a recent episode of TVB sitcom Come Home Love: Lo and Behold, Lau Dan’s and Chan Wing Chun’s characters explained that Ma Pau, who’s played by veteran actor Peter Lai, was not around as he was visiting relatives overseas.

However, it turns out that it was just the show’s way of working around the real reason for Peter’s absence.

According to reports, the 71-year-old had taken a break from work to undergo heart surgery three months ago.

He had gone to see a doctor about his swollen eyes and found out that it was caused by the narrowing of a blood vessel in his brain.

While this didn’t pose a major threat to Peter’s brain, it was also discovered that he had two clogged blood vessels around his heart and he quickly went for a procedure to open the blocked coronary arteries.

Fortunately, Peter has since recovered as the condition was discovered early, but he had another problem to deal with: Having enough to pay for the operation.

The consultation at the private hospital alone set him back HK$100,000 (S$17,200) and the surgery cost another HK$200,000 (S$34,500), racking up a total bill of HK$300,000 (S$51,700) — not exactly chump change for someone whose income was affected by his brief hiatus.

And here’s where Bosco comes in

Just like Cinderella had her fairy godmother, Peter had his own fairy “godson”, Bosco Wong, looking out for him.

Upon hearing of Peter’s plight, the younger actor, 41, took the initiative to step in and offer financial assistance, touching the former with his generosity.

It’s not known whether Bosco took care of the entire bill or if he simply lent Peter the money, but it was still really sweet of him.

Peter and Bosco got to know each other on the set of TVB drama Wars of In-Laws in 2004 and have long regarded each other as “godfather” and “godson”.

When the media contacted Bosco to get his thoughts on helping Peter, he simply said: “There’s not much to say between fathers and sons, if you have the ability to do something, just do it!”
