HK Actress Catherine Hung Was Reportedly Paid S$116K To Appear At Event, Where She Was Criticised For Her Off-Key Singing

Hong Kong actress Catherine Hung, who was big in the '90s, graced an event in China recently and her appearance ignited a lot of talk online.

The star arrived surrounded by a bevy of bodyguards before heading for a tour around the store, where she snapped pics with other guests.

She then headed to the stage, which was located at an outdoor event space near the storefront. There, she performed a medley of Cantonese and Mandarin songs in front of a large crowd.

Clips of Catherine's performance went viral in no time, and not for good reasons

Clips of Catherine’s performance quickly went viral, and she was soon at the receiving end of criticisms from netizens.

Besides getting fat shamed and mocked for her choice of outfit, many found her singing to be, well, unsatisfactory.

They thought her singing to be “off-key”, and commented on how her Hong Kong accent was extremely strong while singing Mandarin songs.

“Her singing is not enjoyable, and she is also out of tune”, “Does she sound like this because of the cold weather?” and “Does she have the flu?” were just some of the very savage comments left by netizens.

Criticism aside, we’re sure Catherine isn’t too bothered by the naysayers. Reports claim that she was paid 600K yuan (S$116K) from this event appearance alone.

Many commented on “how easy it was for her to make money”, while others had serious doubts about her alleged appearance fee.

Netizens were also left impressed by her ability to draw a large audience despite only starring in a handful of dramas over the past few years.

As for her singing... we'll let you be the judge of that.
