HK Actress Vivian Lai Snaps Back At Chinese Netizens Who Called Her A "Traitor" For Not Sending Her Daughter To A China University
Hongkong actress Vivian Lai became the latest victim of over sensitive Chinese netizens who seem to be finding fault with everything these days.
The 48-year-old posted a selfie with her 18-year-old daughter Sheree at the airport, along with this caption: “I hope we can see each other in a few months. Jiayou!”
All was fine and dandy until a netizen asked Vivian why she wasn’t sending Sheree to China to further her studies.
Vivian replied: “Firstly, the subject [Sheree wants to major in] isn’t available in China. More importantly, my daughter is already grown up. As parents, we can only guide them in the right direction, and the final choice lies with our children.”

Vivan's explanation for sending her daughter overseas
While this seemed like a reasonable explanation, Chinese netizens took umbrage at Vivian’s use of the phrase “right direction”, twisting her words to accuse her of saying that going to China is, well, the wrong direction.
They slammed her for “not properly guiding her daughter to choose majors that are taught in China”, questioned why it was “necessary to go to other countries” and asked her to “reflect on why people are criticising [her].”
Um, okay.
These netizens were so fervent with their criticism that Vivian had no choice but to respond.
She wrote: “Wow, it’s so lively here. What’s wrong with studying overseas? There’s no need to go to the extent of calling me a traitor. You guys are making me die with laughter. There are some majors that aren’t available in China, which is why she had to go somewhere else to study. After she graduates, she’ll come back to the motherland. Why is there such a huge reaction?”

Vivian has washed her hands off the matter by ignoring the trolls
Even then, those netizens felt that her response was “arrogant” and showed her “poor attitude”.
An exasperated Vivian then commented: “Sigh. Those who are filled with anger should let go of [the hate] and stop wasting your precious time.... I will no longer respond to all of you. Thanks for coming.”

All the best in your studies, Sheree!
