HK Media Say TVB Is Grooming Hubert Wu, 31, To Be The Next Raymond Lam

Hongkong media are saying that TVB has plans to groom its next generation of stars whom they hope can save the station's dwindling ratings.

Enter Hubert Wu, who made his showbiz debut in 2010 after coming in second in singing contest The Voice 2.

The 31-year-old has been getting a lot more exposure, at least more than the average TVB actor.

He was the star of A Love Of No Words, which recently wrapped its run, and Hello Misfortune, which premiered on Dec 27. It's uncommon for the broadcaster to air back-to-back dramas with the same lead actor so that's saying a lot about Hubert's future with the company.

On top of that, he also sung the theme song for three TVB dramas last year, a sign that he's been getting a lot of opportunities to showcase his repertoire of skills.

No surprises then that the media are saying that TVB is planning to turn him into the next Raymond Lam, who was one of the station's most bankable stars, both as an actor and a singer, before he left in 2014.

After his departure, it's said that TVB has struggled to look for a “good-looking male star who can sing and act” just like Raymond, 42.

However, it seems Raymond had swifter ascent than Hubert, who is now in his 11th year in showbiz.

Raymond, who joined TVB in 1998, landed his first lead role within three years with Eternal Happiness. His popularity grew exponentially during his first decade with TVB, thanks to dramas such as La Femme Desperado, Heart Of Greed and Twin Of Brothers.

Only time will tell if Hubert will succeed in becoming Raymond 2.0.

    Good luck, Hubert!
