Hongkong Actor Bowie Lam Praised For Being “A Good Employer” After Driving Helper To Buy Necessities

Hongkong has been experiencing an overwhelming surge in COVID-19 cases, leading panicked residents to rush to the supermarkets to stock up on food and other necessities (again).

Recently, Hongkong actor Bowie Lam shared a video giving fans an update on what he’s been up to in the midst of the pandemic, which included a shot of him at the wheel of a car.

“Sending our housekeeper to buy necessities,” he explained. “The spread of the pandemic has been severe and the process of self-protection has begun. Things will definitely get better tomorrow.”

The clip shows the 56-year-old personally driving the helper to shop while he stayed in the vehicle patiently waiting for her.

This earned him praise from netizens, who gushed about him being “a good and unpretentious employer”. Certainly an uplifting breath of fresh air from all those other horrific tales of people treating their domestic helpers horribly.

Some also pointed out Bowie could be doing this so that the housekeeper could avoid taking public transport, where she might have a higher chance of catching the virus. The star himself seemed to confirm this by responding with an emoji.

After enjoying a successful career with TVB in the ‘90s, Bowie has been keeping a low profile in recent years.

His last drama was the 2020 ViuTV production The Gutter, and his last public appearance was as a presenter at the TVB Anniversary Awards in January.

Not much is known about his personal life as well, and he has impressively remained relatively scandal-free throughout his 35 years in showbiz.
