Hongkong Actor Michael Wong Says Wife Janet Ma Agreed To Date Him After He Used This Confident Pick-Up Line On Her
While all the news about celeb couples divorcing is probably enough to make anyone think that “happily ever after” is but an elusive dream in the world of showbiz, Hongkong-based Chinese-American actor Michael Wong and his supermodel wife Janet Ma are doing a pretty good job at proving that hopeless notion wrong.
The pair is set to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary this May — not bad at all for two people who said “I do” after just seven months of dating.
Michael, 56, met Janet, who had ended her previous marriage to a civil engineer, on the set of a commercial shoot and it was love at first sight. Clearly brimming with confidence, he went up to her and said: “Our children will be very beautiful.”
Can’t say he was wrong about that
It obviously worked.
They started going out and eventually tied the knot after a whirlwind seven-month romance, and we guess they had been eager to test Michael’s very confident theory ‘cos by that time, Janet was already five months pregnant with their first child, 29-year-old daughter Kayla.
They are also parents to younger daughter Irisa, 26, and 22-year-old son Kadin.
While it’s easy to gush about them now, the public wasn’t exactly the most supportive or optimistic when it came to Michael and Janet’s union as they thought Michael was a “playboy” who wouldn’t take the relationship seriously.
To make matters worse, horrid weather on the day of their wedding prevented many guests from showing up, making the whole atmosphere even more sombre.
Thankfully, that wasn’t an indication of how their marriage was going to be like
In any case, Michael and Janet have since managed to prove their naysayers very, very wrong — so what’s their secret?
While they’ve had their issues — just like any other marriage — and have different personalities, they always know how to work things out.
For instance, when they get into a quarrel that makes Janet not want to speak to Michael for days, the latter will swallow his pride and be the first to apologise.
As for Janet, she believes in giving her husband a lot of freedom and trust. She once revealed that no matter how late Michael comes home, she won’t ever nag him about it as she believes everyone needs their own space, and that being apart will make them cherish their time together even more.
