Jernelle Oh's character in Mediacorp drama Cash on Delivery based on actual local delivery person with cerebral palsy
Mediacorp actress Jernelle Oh, 29, has been receiving praise for her nuanced performance as Huang Meizhen, a kind-hearted and optimistic food delivery person who suffers from cerebral palsy in Mediacorp drama Cash On Delivery.
In a recent interview with LOVE 972 DJs Wallace Ang and Waisee, Jernelle shared more about her character, revealing that Meizhen is actually based on a local food delivery person with cerebral palsy, Anna De Rossa.
Jernelle shared that Anna has moderate cerebral palsy and is able to move only the upper half of her body.
In order to better understand Anna’s condition, Jernelle visited Anna before filming started to chat about her life, as well as learn the different struggles and triumphs she experiences at work.

Apart from that, Anna’s experience of losing $300 after getting cheated while on the job was also incorporated into the drama.
Anna, who’s been working as a food delivery person since 2018, also appears in a scene in Cash On Delivery with Jernelle.
Jernelle expressed hopes that Anna would be proud of her performance in Cash On Delivery, adding that Anna’s father even reached out to Jernelle to commend her after watching the show.
Jernelle, who was a finalist in Star Search 2019, has challenged a variety of roles, including Thai woman Cai Lai in the long-form drama The Heartland Hero. She's also a host on shows like Silver Carnival and Just Swipe Lah.
