Joanne Peh Shows Off Qi Yuwu’s Improv Skills; Netizens Say This Is Why He Won Best Actor

When you’re an award-winning actor, you don’t need anything fancy to set the stage for a performance. Just ask Qi Yuwu, 45, who showed off his improv skills with only a banana as his prop.

Check out this video Joanne Peh, 38, posted on her Instagram.

"This is what extreme fatigue does to us — while we were discussing how to cook the banana, [715] who was shirtless, paid no heed. Instead, he put on his t-shirt and did a delirious improv instead,” wrote Joanne.

In the video, Yuwu makes a call on his banana ‘phone’, chattering away in fluent Cantonese to an unknown party.

“I just bought a new phone, it’s very good, very big and fragrant. I bought a T-shirt today too, and they gave me a phone for free,” he says in mock seriousness, before breaking out in laughter.

No monkey business going on here

According to the actor, his environmentally-friendly phone also comes with another benefit — it’s “good for your body”.

“After making the phone call, I can even eat it,” he laughs, adding that consuming the banana phone will “help you digest better”.

Don't let his stoic face fool you

Netizens were very much impressed by the Guangzhou-born actor's punny performance and his fluent Cantonese.

“Super perfect Cantonese,” one netizen wrote, while another commented that Yuwu’s performance was "so creative and funny.”

One netizen also praised Yuwu, writing that he is "indeed very good at acting”.

“Best actor is best actor alright,” a netizen wrote, with yet another chiming in that it’s “no wonder he’s our Best Actor [winner]”.
