Kingdom Yuen Posts Funny Video Of Herself Rationing Food During Shanghai Lockdown; Gets Slammed For “Misleading” Others

Shanghai has been under strict lockdown for weeks as part of China's battle to contain its biggest COVID-19 outbreak ever.

Residents have been trapped at home and many have shared their difficulties getting their hands on food and other essentials.

Recently, Hongkong actress Kingdom Yuen, who is based in Shanghai, took to Douyin to give followers a glimpse of how her life has changed since the lockdown.

In the parody clip, the 58-year-old shared that pre-lockdown she would often get dressed up to go out.

However, recently, she has not only been staying home but has also been rationing her food.

In the video, the comedian is about to bite into her donut when she suddenly stops and takes out a pair of scissors to cut a small piece to eat, saving the rest for later meals.

Similarly, instead of drinking from her mug, she pours a small amount of water into a tiny glass and sips from it.

Though the video was just for laughs, some Chinese netizens were not amused.

They slammed Kingdom for being insensitive and making light of the pandemic situation in Shanghai. They also criticised her for “exaggerating” and misleading others.

There were comments like “You are a public figure, and you should pay more attention [to what you do]", and “Has the water supply in Shanghai been cut off?”

There were also netizens who praised Kingdom for being frugal and pointed out that this was an accurate depiction of the lives of many Shanghai residents now.
