Korean star Song Ji Hyo reportedly makes S$10,000 a week on Running Man; criticised for half-hearted performance on the show

Korean actress Song Ji Hyo, 41, has been part of the Running Man cast since 2010. The popularity of the long-running series coupled with her adorably ‘blur’ personality on the show has propelled her to international fame.

However some Korean netizens have recently found the actress’ performance on Running Man to be lacking.

In an online forum post titled “If Song Ji Hyo has a conscience, she should voluntarily resign from Running Man”, a netizen criticised how the actress seemed to have “lacked passion” and “performed half-heartedly” on recent episodes.

In their post, they likened the actress to a ‘vase’, which is basically a term used to describe someone who brings nothing to the table but good looks.

They also said the new ‘characters’ she tried to create for the show were forgettable, and that her supposed ‘love-line’ with co-star Kim Jong Kook did not do much to improve viewership.

The netizen went on to point out her “tired expressions”, and slammed her for being “a drag”, and to hammer home the point, felt that the star was not deserving of her S$10K she gets paid weekly for being on the show.

The netizen harshly criticised Ji Hyo's performance on recent episodes of the show

The post sparked a discussion online, with a number netizens agreeing with the original poster.

“Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jong Kook used to be the show’s aces. It was back when all the members of Running Man worked really hard. However, as time passed, plus the addition of new members who started to outshine her, Song Ji Hyo has become outdated. It feels like the other Running Man members have gotten complacent as well. Besides Yoo Jae Suk, there doesn't seem to be anyone who works as hard as they used to,” commented one netizen.

However, there were also others who felt that the critics were being too harsh. They believe the production team should be blamed instead.

Some also suggested that the post could have been created by Ji Hyo’s former agency in a bid to smear her reputation. She left Uzurocks on bad terms, and the company reportedly still owes Ji Hyo a huge sum of money.
