Li Chen slammed for saying girls are a 'burden' on Chinese variety show Keep Running

Celebrities really have to think twice before blurting things out.

Chinese actor Li Chen, 44, recently became a target of online vitriol because of an offhand remark he made on Chinese reality show Keep Running.

Li Chen obviously didn't think before he shooting his mouth off

In the latest episode of the variety show, which is already in its 11th season, the actor was playing a game where he had to 'capture' members of an opposing team with his teammates Zhou Shen, Fan Chengcheng and Zhang Jingyi.

During the game, Li Chen received a call from Chengcheng saying that they've 'caught' Chinese actress Bai Lu and singer Song Yuqi

Upon hearing what Chengcheng said, Li Chen first replied: "Beautiful!" before candidly saying: "But you caught two girls, they will be a burden to us".

Li Chen's apology for his blunder

Li Chen's quip sparked such an outrage online, it became a trending topic on Weibo.

Needless to say, netizens were furious with Li Chen.

"[You're] So old already, you should learn how to speak mindfully," chastised one netizen.

"Men have always blamed women whenever something goes wrong," snarked another.

A netizen also dissed Li Chen's past relationship with Fan Bingbing, saying: "Not sure if he realised he was being a burden when he was dating Fan Bingbing."

Li Chen has since apologised on Weibo for his mistake.

"[I'm very sorry that due to the nature of the catching game in the show, I hastily said something I shouldn't have. I'm respectful towards everyone, and I would like to sincerely apologise for upsetting all of you!," he wrote.
