Lin Chiling Wins Lawsuit Against Company That Withheld S$857K Payment For Filming 2 Episodes Of Go Fighting! For 4 Years
While many netizens were happy for the star, there were also others who couldn’t get past just how outrageously lucrative this job was.
It looks like even A-listers aren’t spared from having their salaries withheld from them after completing a high-profile job.
Recently, Chinese media reported that Taiwanese model-actress Lin Chiling, who turns 47 on November 29, had won a lawsuit to recover the appearance fee owed to her for participating in Chinese variety show Go Fighting! — four years after the payment was due.
The amount? A cool 4mil yuan (S$857,000)... for just two episodes.
According to reports, Chiling’s work studio filed a complaint against production company Yuan Chun Media after the latter failed to pay her for the filming of two Go Fighting! episodes in July 2017.
The judgement stated that Yuan Chun Media had actually received the 4mil yuan from Go Fighting! broadcaster Dragon TV to be sent to Chiling, but the latter didn’t see a single cent from them for four years.
The star’s reps even sent Yuan Chun Media contract fulfilment letters in 2018 and 2020 reminding them to pay up, and although there was evidence that the deliveries were successful, Yuan Chun Media claimed that they never received any documents.
Fortunately for Chiling, her side still won the case in the end.
While many netizens were happy for Chiling and congratulated her, there were also others who couldn’t get past just how outrageously lucrative this job was (although that’s probably gonna change thanks to China’s new showbiz regulations).
“4mil yuan for two episodes? Is that even reasonable?” questioned one, while another remarked: “She’s not even an international superstar and yet she still gets paid so much. I wonder how much even bigger stars earn.”
Of course, plenty of side-eyeing was reserved for those who held on to Chiling’s hard-earned dough, with one scoffing: “Who knew that such a popular show like Go Fighting! would still owe people money?”
