While everyone had to buy tickets to watch Taiwanese ballad prince Sam Lee (李圣杰) at his Me & Song concert last Sunday (Sep 19), a certain someone had the honour of singing karaoke with the 50-year-old star.
And that person is Mediacorp actress Bonnie Loo.
Taking to her Instagram to rave about her night, the 29-year-old gushed: "I admit I'm a lucky child. After watching teacher Sam Lee's concert in Singapore, I really wanted to hear [him sing more]. Thank you teacher for giving me the opportunity to have a small karaoke session with you."
"Although my vocals weren't in their best state and I was slightly embarrassed, I'm sure my bad flu will recover very soon after singing [with you]," added the 2013 Campus Superstar champion.
Wait, how did that karaoke sesh even happen?
When 8days.sg reached out to Bonnie, she shared that she was supposed to meet Sam back in July when she was invited to attend Taiwanese star Julia Peng's concert in Taiwan.
Unfortunately, she had to return to Singapore earlier because of a typhoon.
"The day after his concert here, I was told he would have a small gathering with friends and industry people that night before he flies back to Taiwan. Since we were at a KTV, of course we had to sing so I grabbed the opportunity to have a duet with him," said Bonnie, who added that she couldn't let the opportunity slip away, even though she was down with a bad flu.
"I asked to sing a song of his that I really like, called 'Shi Ni Jue Ding Wo De Shang Xin', and he nicely obliged. He even joked that I'll be the guest performer at his next concert," she gushed.
So how did Bonnie become friends with Sam in the first place?
It's all thanks to a cover of 'Shi Ni Jue Ding Wo De Shang Xin' that Bonnie previously did on her YouTube channel.
"When I shared the cover, I tagged him and he left a comment about my singing and we got introduced to each other. In July, he was in Singapore and he happened to be watching A-Mei's concert on the same day as me, so we met for dinner along with other friends," she recalled.
Should we be expecting any future collaborations with Sa,?
"I actually recorded a cover of Sam's song but I didn't manage to share it 'cos I've been too busy. I did tell him about it and wanted to invite him for a duet, but we didn't manage to go through with it 'cos of time."
Bonnie did manage to get some singing tips from Sam though.
"I asked him: "How is your stamina still so good after an entire concert?", and he told me: "The day before your performance, you need to get a lot of sleep and eat well. You don't have to go on a diet but you can't eat raw food,"" she said.
