Nancy Sit Says She “Almost Lost Her Virginity” When, Then 23, She Was Targeted By A Gunman In Cebu
Veteran Hongkong star Nancy Sit, 71, got her start in showbiz in the ‘60s and was one of the most popular young actresses in her heyday. Also a prolific singer, her singing career took her around the world for performances.
Recently, the star was a guest on TVB variety show Believe It Or Not?, where celebs take turns to share a story related to the episode’s theme, which was “Firsts”, and members of the opposing team have to guess if they are telling the truth.
When it was Nancy’s turn, she shared about a traumatic encounter with a gunman in the Philippines. And boy was it terrifying.

Check out the turnout
Recounting the incident that took place in 1973, Nancy said she was then 23 and was invited to perform for two nights in Cebu. However, after her performance on the first night, she was targeted by a man, who followed her back to her hotel.
According to Nancy, the man, who looked to be in his 20s, went to the hotel carrying a gun and demanded to see her.
The hotel staff immediately rang Nancy in her room and told her to lock the door.
Nancy said she was terrified when he pounded her door. When he did not get a response, he went to the adjacent room, where a male singer (whom she did not identify) was staying, and dragged him downstairs.
“[The gunman] dragged the singer downstairs and forced him to drink. There were around 40 cans of beer and after he finished each can, [the gunman] would fire his gun,” recalled Nancy.
Nancy, who was then hiding in her room, called the police. When the cops arrived, they merely had a chat with the gunman and left shortly.
“Turns out the gunman was some big shot and the police knew him,” she said.

She's still terrified after 50 years
It was only later when the gunman’s father showed up to persuade his son to go home that the horror ended.
The gunman’s dad also apologised to Nancy and offered to compensate her for her trauma.
Nancy said she was so frightened that she immediately packed her bags and flew back to Hongkong the next morning.
Even though it’s been nearly 50 years, the star is clearly still horrified by the memory of the incident. Nancy said that if the gunman's father hadn’t show up, she might have lost her virginity that night.
And in case you were wondering, everyone believed Nancy’s story immediately.

Nancy and Maria Cordero
Hongkong singer Maria Cordero, who was also a guest on the show, also shared a similar experience. However, instead of her, it was actor Simon Yam who was at gunpoint.
Maria said they were in Indonesia for a performance. When Simon performed on stage, he liked handing out flowers to women in the audience. This offended a man of some influence, who forced Simon to drink at gunpoint as punishment, and Maria offered to drink on his behalf.
"I took a sip of the drink, and when the man saw it, he said he wanted to drink with me. I said ‘Sure!’ and told him I would drink with him after my performance, but I left immediately after singing," she recalled.
