Nancy Wu, 41, Just Friendzoned Alex Fong, Says She’s Seeing A Potential Suitor
TVB actress Nancy Wu, 41, has always been open with her relationships.
Since her showbiz debut in 2001, she has dated TVB actor Kenneth Ma, 49, and Hong Kong singer Deep Ng, 39, and been linked to Ruco Chan, 46, but none of her confirmed (or rumoured) relationships have lasted more than two years.
Friends, as well as the media, have expressed, um, concern about her love life.
Earlier this week, Nancy made an appearance at the Hung Hing Cultural Festival at Aberdeen Island where she shared that she prayed for good health and that all her wishes would come true.
When reporters asked if marriage was one of them, she replied candidly: “I hope that 2023 will be the year of marriage.”
She added that there is a potential suitor and that they need time to get to know each other.
Who is the new man in Nancy's life?
Reporters naturally took the bait and were curious to find out more about the mystery guy, asking if they were set up by TVB host Bob Lam, who has declared his interest in finding a guy for Nancy. All Nancy would let on was a coy “Getting to know him first.”
In case you didn’t know, Bob has a knack for helping fellow celebs find love and has earned a reputation as a ‘celeb matchmaker’.
Recently, Bob revealed that he had set a female artiste up with a guy and they seemed to be making progress in their relationship, but declined to reveal more.
What about her other potential suitors?
During the interview, reporters also asked Nancy about her pal and rumoured suitor, Alex Fong, though he apparently never had the courage to pursue her as she was too fierce.
Recently, Alex, 42, posted a decade-old throwback pic of the pair to promote their new drama Mission Run, which is currently airing on TVB.
In his Instagram post, Alex shared that he has known Nancy since they were 16 and that the first time he went to TVB City was to support her when she joined the New Talent Singing Awards.
“Who would have guessed that after such a long time, we would have the opportunity to act [in a drama] together and she even plays my stepmother. Are you kidding me? (But I am secretly happy)… My old friend, I will always remember how happy we were when we first worked together,” he wrote.
Nancy told reporters that when she was in school, she would go to the Kowloon Park swimming complex to cheer for Alex, a national swimmer, during competitions. And when she participated in talent competitions, she would invite him to support her.
She noted that Alex has changed a lot over the years.
“His biggest change is that he didn’t used to speak much before, but he’s chattier now. We knew each other when we were teenagers and even filmed a music video together, but this is the first time we are starring in a drama together. It’s amazing that we’ve both become artistes. In short, the friendship will last forever!" she said.
Now that they are both single, was there a chance that they would take their friendship to the next level, asked reporters.
[We’ve known each other] For so many years, if we wanted to be together, we would have got together a long time ago!" was her reply.
She added that Alex is a nice guy and if she met someone suitable, she would introduce her to him.
So that’s a hard ‘no’, then?
