Nicky Wu, 51, Fat-Shamed & Called An “Uncle” After Latest Variety Show Appearance

Another day, another celebrity getting their looks mercilessly picked apart by faceless internet denizens.

Recently, Taiwanese actor Nicky Wu made a guest appearance on iQiyi variety show Let’s Go Skiing, where he took part in a variety of winter games with other stars like Angelababy.

According to Nicky, the last time he skied “seriously” was “about 15 or 16 years ago” so he was a little nervous about the challenges, but he ended up wowing everybody with his skills.

However, his athletic abilities weren’t what got people talking.

After the episode aired, both media reports and netizens’ comments zeroed in on the 51-year-old’s looks, namely his “rounder face”, “double chin”, “neck that can hardly be seen”, and “bloated” appearance, which was even “more obvious” next to the ever-slender Angelababy.

Along with the fat-shaming came a dose of age-shaming as well — um, early 50s isn’t even that old!? — with the usual snide “he’s turned into an uncle” remarks and unfavourable comparisons to how he looked in Scarlet Heart (which is literally a 10-year-old drama, by the way).

To be fair, Angelababy would probably make most folks look big

Fortunately, there were those who came to Nicky’s defense, saying that it was simply unflattering camera angles that caused him to look a bit larger.

They also reminded everyone that he is already in his 50s so it’s only natural for his body to change, and that he actually still looks really good for his age.

Take that, haters

This certainly isn’t the first time Nicky, who has a two-year-old son with wife Liu Shishi, has been in the news for weight-related issues.
