Popular Clementi Hawker Stall Mei Jie Porridge Closing

Mei Jie Porridge is a hawker stall at Clementi that’s well-known for its Cantonese-style porridge. It’s run by young husband-and-wife Ivan and Yunita, who get up at 3am almost daily to prepare their porridge using a recipe passed down by Ivan’s aunt.

The couple patiently stir the gruel — which has beancurd skin added to give it extra silkiness — in a pot by hand till it thickens, before adding ingredients like handmade pork balls, snakehead fish slices, innards and watercress.

It’s closing in May

But sad news for fans of the stall: Mei Jie Porridge announced today (Apr 29) on social media that it is “ceasing operations soon” on May 31, 2022.

Closure reason

According to Yunita’s post, she is closing her stall as “our current coffeeshop lease is over and we are being forced to leave as [the coffeeshop will] undergo renovations and will supposedly be letting other tenants in”.

May reopen again

Yunita thanked her customers for their support, saying: “Hope that we'll get to see you guys again soon.”

She and Ivan are “currently in the midst of finding a new place or perhaps we might close for good”, adding that “we will update you guys along the way.”

Mei Jie Porridge at is #01-150 Wan Fu Coffeeshop, Blk 722 Clementi West St 2, S120722. Open daily except Mon, 6.30am-2pm.
