Popular Taiwanese restaurant chain Moon Moon Food opening first overseas outlet in S’pore

Frequent travellers to Taiwan may have heard of Moon Moon Food. The popular Michelin Guide-approved Taiwanese restaurant chain got its English name from its Chinese moniker 雙月, which means ‘double moon’ (but Moon Moon sounds cuter, we say).

No part of this story or photos can be reproduced without permission from 8days.sg. It specialises in hearty, nourishing soups and home-style braised and steamed dishes. And it’s opening its first overseas outlet, right here in Singapore.

Orchard Road location

Little is known about the Singapore outlet, except that it is located at Ngee Ann City and is slated to open in October 2024. At press time, the bright red hoarding for the restaurant is still up.

What to expect

At its Taiwanese branches, Moon Moon Food serves Chinese-style food cooked with fresh local ingredients like free-range chickens, oysters and Hualien chilli peppers.

It is particularly well-known for soup, with options like Green Chilli Peppers with Chicken, Sea Bass & Clams and Chicken with Garlic Cloves.

You are meant to pair your soup main with a range of a la carte braised side dishes, like tofu, kombu and mushrooms, as well as other side dish picks like stir-fried oysters and steamed fish. What is also interesting about Moon Moon Food is that their carb options are equally well-loved. It is known for its lu rou fan (braised pork rice), scallion noodles and shallot oil rice.
