Richard Ng’s Son Recalls “Tongue-In-Cheek” Conversation With The Late Actor In Heartfelt IG Post

8days.sg received an email from Carl Ng, the son of the late Richard Ng, informing us that the conversation he had with his dad that he recalled in his IG post was "jovial and tongue-in-cheek" and "particular to a father-son relationship".  He also stressed that there was no mention of suicide or an attempt at suicide.

"My father had a sense of humour that he shared with everyone regardless of any situation he found himself in," added Carl.

This story has been updated to reflect the following changes.

Hong Kong comedian Richard Ng, who starred in Mediacorp sitcoms Under One Roof and Brothers 4, passed away from a cardiac arrest last month (April 9). He was 83.

Yesterday (May 7), his son, model-actor Carl Ng, 47, took to Instagram to share a post in memory of his dad.

He recalled a conversation he had Richard, who had been battling chronic kidney disease

Carl wrote: “I went to his bedside one morning in April. To wake him for his breakfast. He greeted me with.. "I tried to die last night, didn't work". I replied: "Maybe try something you're good at, like living." We both laughed. But we both knew.”

“Like all things in life. Laughter or sorrow, happiness or fear. We will look back, sometimes with regret, sometimes with joy. And remember, this too shall pass,” he continued.

Carl also posted Richard's funeral details

Richard’s wake started yesterday (May 8) at the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hung Hom.

The wake has also been made open to the public. The final rites will take place today (May 9) at 2pm.
