Shawn Yue Gives Tour Of Office In YouTube Vlog; Chinese Netizens Get Upset At His “Taiwanese Accent”
Wait, what's wrong with having a Taiwanese accent?
Hongkong actor Shawn Yue is the latest star to hop aboard the celebrity YouTuber bandwagon and posted his first full-length episode on Tuesday (Oct 26), where he gave a tour of his work studio in Taipei.
However, instead of paying attention to the cool artwork and furnishing of the place (or even Shawn’s family, who made brief appearances), some folks decided to take umbrage at the 39-year-old’s accent instead.
You see, Chinese netizens got wind of the clip when it was shared on Weibo, and before long, there were all sorts of unhappy comments pointing out his “Taiwanese accent”.
Complaints include: “Why is he speaking in a Taiwanese accent?”, “He’s been with his Taiwanese wife for too long, even the way he talks has changed”, “Your Taiwanese accent is too strong”, and “Have a good career on the island!”.
We reckon that last one is a veiled message for “Don’t even think about coming to work in the Mainland”.
This isn’t the first time Shawn has ticked off the Chinese internet mob.
Last year, his clothing label was accused of releasing a collection that supposedly displayed support for the Hongkong pro-independence movement, a couple of years after the same brand came under fire for referring to Hongkong, Macau, and Taiwan as “countries” on their website.
In addition to the warm interior, the place is filled with tons of artwork, which doesn’t really come as a surprise as Shawn is known to be an avid art collector.
Downstairs is what he called his “main working area”, where he keeps and checks the samples for his clothing label.
The room also comes with a rest area and bed.
Shawn revealed that he served his mandatory quarantine there when he returned to Taiwan earlier.
The video also brought viewers to Shawn’s home, with his wife, Taiwanese model Sarah Wang, and their three-year-old son Cody making cameos in the ep. The couple also has a daughter named Celest, who was born last year.
This marks the first time that he has shown such a clear look at Cody’s face, which is usually covered by a sticker or turned away from the camera in Shawn’s social media posts of the boy.
The two of them shared several heart-warming moments in the clip, playing with Cody’s extensive toy car collection — like father, like son — and pretending to get into a superhero fight.
