Simon Yam's Wife Qi Qi Says Not Being Able To Contact Him After He Got Stabbed Was The “Toughest Time In [Her] Life”

Imagine being the last to find out about your husband's injuries.

When it comes to recent celeb news, there have been none as shocking as Hongkong actor Simon Yam getting repeatedly stabbed and slashed by an assailant while attending an event in China last month.

Last week, Simon had told the press that his wife Qi Qi was worried sick when she wasn't able to contact him after learning about the slashing from social media. When asked about this, the model, who was at an event yesterday (her first public appearance since the incident), told the press that those few hours where she couldn't get hold of her husband was “the toughest time in [her] life”.

The stabbing may have happened half a month ago but she says she's still haunted by what had happened. “In fact, I was the last person to know. When the stabbing occurred, Simon specifically told his management company to not alert me because he was afraid that I’d be worried, said Qi Qi. At that time, I was preparing to fly from Beijing to Shanghai. I was charging my phone when I saw someone post about Simon’s injury on Weibo. I immediately became nervous. I tried to call him but he didn’t answer. I tried to call the people around him but there was no response either. I was so shocked that my heart started racing. It was the toughest time in my life!” the 51-year-old added.

Luckily, Albert Yeung, the CEO of Emperor Entertainment Group, insisted that Qi Qi had to be notified because she needed to give the hospital the go-ahead for Simon's surgery. When she was contacted, Qi Qi immediately flew to Hongkong instead.

“Those five hours on the plane were the worst. It felt really long. Simon was already anesthetised when I got on the plane, so I couldn’t talk to him. My daughter hugged me and told me not to worry. We said a few prayers. Luckily she was with me, if not I wouldn't know what to do,” Qi Qi said.

She also gave the media an update on Simon’s condition, assuring everyone that he is doing well. He still needs time to recover before he can resume work, she said. According to Qi Qi, the actor is now undergoing rehabilitation for his hand and spends his free time taking care of their dog.

Qi Qi also said that even though she doesn't cook, she has started to search for recipes online so she can make healthy meals for Simon. “It would be good for my husband’s health. I hope he recovers quickly. My daughter and I are fighting to cook for him!” she laughed.
