"Sorry, this one’s uncultured": Xu Bin's reaction while educating staff on history of Dragon Boat Festival is hilarious
It's the Dragon Boat Festival today (Jun 22) and our Instagram has been flooded by celebrities flaunting their delicious bak zhang.
But for Noontalk Media artistes Xu Bin and Kimberly Chia, 27, they were tasked to answer Dragon Boat Festival trivia questions which got the 34-year-old actor really indignant.
Was Xu Bin thinking: "Why are these people my colleagues?"?
In the video posted on Noontalk Media's Instagram yesterday (Jun 21), Xu Bin and Kimberly were asked a series of MCQ about the Dragon Boat Festival.
The first question was: "Who is the Dragon Boat Festival meant to commemorate?"
And the options were: a) Chang E b) Zong Zijie [which sounds like “Rice Dumpling Festival” in Mandarin] c) Qu Yuan d) Yang Gui Fei.
However, when reading option c), which is the correct answer, the camerawoman mispronounced Qu Yuan's name as "Qu Yue" which left Xu Bin really bewildered.
"Wait, wait, it's Qu Yuan, not Qu Yue, there's no such person as Qu Yue," he said sternly.
He even had to repeat the correct pronunciation thrice before the unseen woman could get it right.
"How can you guys not know Qu Yuan?!," he asked, to which a very honest Kimberly replied: "Yah, I don't know who that is!" Aiyoh, how can?
For the next question, the woman behind the camera went on to ask Xu Bin and Kimberly which ancient Chinese poem was the work of Qu Yuan’s.
Unfortunately, it seemed like she'd completely turned a deaf ear to Xu Bin's earlier nagging and still got Qu Yuan’s name wrong.
This then led an exasperated Xu Bin to quip: "Okay, sorry, this one is uncultured."
We can't blame Xu Bin for getting so agitated though
For those who're unaware, Qu Yuan is a Chinese poet and politician known for his patriotism in the State of Chu during the Warring States period.
He's also the reason we eat rice dumplings every Dragon Boat Festival.
It was said that after the empire Qu Yuan served fell, he threw himself into a river in despair.
The locals threw triangle-shaped rice dumplings into the river to prevent the fish from eating his body.
