Tai Wah Pork Noodle & Burnt Ends Among New Eateries At Michelin Guide Street Food Fest 2019

The hip one-Michelin-star mod Australian wood-fired grill joint with the month-long waiting list headlines the event this year. It's run by Aussie chef Dave Pynt and Loh Lik Peng of the Unlisted Collection group of restaurants.

While the eatery serves fancy stuff like 75-Day Dry-Aged Wagyu cooked in Jarrah wood-fired ovens at its restaurant, at the fest, it’ll be offering easier to eat bites like Steak Frites, Jamaican Chicken and Lime Crema, plus its famous Burnt Ends' Sanger (pulled pork shoulder and ’slaw tucked in a soft bun).

This bak chor mee stall at Hong Lim Market & Food Centre also boasts long queues — hopefully the lines will be shorter at its stand at the festival. It received a Michelin Bib Gourmand nod in 2018. Of course, it’ll be serving bowls of its signature Bak Chor Mee littered with crunchy fried flat fish. Do not confuse this hawker with the (superior-tasting) one-Michelin-starred Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle, run by the uncle of Tai Wah’s young towkay.

The two-Michelin-starred Sichuan restaurant headed by Japanese chef Kentaro is also taking part at the fest for the first time this year. Expect dishes like his signature ‘Chen’s Mapo Doufu’, featuring stir-fried tofu in spicy Sichuan peppercorn-spiked meat sauce, and more.

2018 Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient Rolina Traditional Hainanese Curry Puff at Tanjong Pagar Plaza's Food Centre will offer its classic Curry Chicken and Sardine Puffs for your snacking pleasure.

Although Ji Ji Wanton Noodle from Hong Lim Food Complex didn’t get a Bib Gourmand award, it did snag a “Michelin Plate” mention. Tuck into its thick, al dente noodles slicked with a sweetish sauce and crispy wantons at the event.

While Teppei won’t be present at the event this year, you can still get your Japanese food fix with various yakitori cuts from this Bib Gourmand recipient.

Also new this year at the fest: this well-loved Spanish eatery (which appears in the ‘Michelin Plate’ category in the guide). Expect tasty tapas from chef Daniel Chavez.

Returning to the fest is ‘Michelin recommended’ Traditional Haig Road Putu Piring. Besides its famous gooey gula melaka-filled steamed rice cakes, there’ll be the all-new durian putu piring, filled with creamy D24 durian flesh as well as gula melaka. Yum.

The makan fest will be held at RWS for the third consecutive year and there will be two seatings per day.
