Tsui Wah Launches Bolo Buns Stuffed With Scrambled Eggs, Luncheon Meat & Char Siew
McDonald’s has its scrambled egg with sausage burger. Tsui Wah has… bolo bun with luncheon meat and scrambled eggs. The Hong Kong cha chaan teng chain recently launched an adorable new series of bolo buns stuffed with savoury ingredients like char siew, scrambled eggs and luncheon meat.

Five bolo bun flavours
There are five bolo bun flavours available, which includes a classic plain Bolo Bun ($2.80), Bolo Bun with Butter ($3.80), BBQ Pork Bolo Bun ($3.80), Bolo Bun with Scrambled Egg ($5.20) and Bolo Bun with Scrambled Egg & Luncheon Meat ($6.20).
Taste test
So what does a bolo bun with scrambled egg and luncheon meat taste like? We gave it a try and found Tsui Wah’s runny scrambled eggs rich and nicely buttery. The eggs are wedged with a thick, salty slice of pan-fried luncheon meat between a freshly-baked, soft bolo bun with a sweet, crispy scored crust (the diamond-shaped scoring is what gives bolo bun its Cantonese ‘pineapple bun’ moniker).
It reminds us of a burger, albeit with a softer, sweeter bun. While $6.20 is pricier than usual for a loaded bolo bun, it makes for a hearty teatime snack or light lunch, and one of these bolo buns is enough to feed a small eater.Get the scrambled egg + luncheon meat flavour; we find it the most shiok out of the five flavours offered. The char siew flavour is also good.
The bolo bun with just scrambled eggs is not bad too, but we prefer the addition of some salty luncheon meat to balance the sweet bun.
