TVB Actor Matthew Ko Says He Only Found Out That His Rumoured Girlfriend Is Very Rich After Reading The News

TVB actor Matthew Ko, who won the inaugural Mr. Hong Kong contest in 2005, left the broadcaster in 2014 because of a lack opportunities, especially when it came to playing lead roles.
The 37-year-old would move to China, where he spent close to six years building his career, only returning to Hongkong last year and signing a contract with Shaw Brothers, effectively marking his return to TVB.
Since his return, he’s been spotted going on multiple dates with former Miss Hong Kong 2019 and Miss Asia Pageant 2019 contestant Cayley Ng, 25.
According to reports, the pair had dated when he was still based in China. However, it was a short-lived romance and they broke up after just a month.
This time round, things appear to a lot more serious, with the media saying that the couple are considering marriage.
However, Matthew has denied all the rumours.
“[Cayley and I] got to know each other last year, and we have a good impression of each other. But the nature of my job requires me to travel often and so I decided that being just friends is more suitable for us, he said, adding that he had moved back to Hongkong because of relationship matters .
Regardless of whether [Cayley] is my ex-girlfriend or old friend, the both of us will continue to keep in touch and have meals together often, he also said.
According to Hongkong media, Cayley, who has a master’s degree from the University of Warwick, comes from a very rich family. Her parents are believed to be entrepreneurs with booming businesses in China.
Cayley’s Instagram feed is filled with pics of her luxurious home — she lives with her parents in in a HK$100mil (S$17.3mil) house in the swanky Repulse Bay district — while decked out in branded clothes and dripping in expensive jewellery.
For example, her “sisterhood ring” with fellow Miss Asia Pageant contestant Jessica Law features an eight carat diamond, which is not something average folk can afford.
Surprisingly, Matthew told reporters that he didn't know about Cayley's wealthy family background until he read the news.
Netizens have since branded Matthew a liar as they find it impossible that he had no clue about how wealthy Cayley is.
“As a stranger who has never met [Cayley] before, I can tell that she’s rich just by looking at her IG feed. How can someone who’s known her for a year not know?”
Another added, “Comments calling him a gold-digger have definitely gotten to him. If he marries her, people will always say that he’s mooching off his wife, so he should either accept it or break up with her.”
