TVB Actor Shaun Tam Says He Was Once Accused Of Molest By A 19-Year-Old Cherrie Ying

TVB Actor Shaun Tam Says He Was Once Accused Of Molest By A 19-Year-Old Cherrie Ying

Everyone was taken aback by his unexpected frankness in revealing her name.

Hongkong stars Shaun Tam, Pakho Chau, Jason Chan, and James Ng were guests on a recent episode of Oppa’s Cuisine, a new TVB variety show where male celebs get to flaunt their culinary skills. The show is hosted by Carol Cheng and Ivana Wong .

During the ep, Shaun, 41, was asked if he ever encountered any female co-stars he couldn’t quite get along with throughout his 21-year career. His response was surprisingly — and refreshingly — frank.

The TVB actor recalled working with an actress whom he had difficulty getting along with due to her young age (she was only 19 and he was 21 back then).

“There was a scene where we needed to have physical contact with each other. We were playing a married couple and I had to hug her,” he explained. “After I held her, she suddenly asked me, ‘Are you trying to molest me?’”

Instead of refraining from naming names like most folks in his position would usually do (and sparking all kinds of witch hunts and guessing games among kaypoh netizens), Shaun continued: “I’m sure she still remembers it to this day. Her name is Cherrie Ying.”

Everyone else was taken aback by his unexpected candour, with Carol exclaiming: “I love how he just revealed her name!”

However, Shaun quickly clarified that the incident probably happened ‘cos they were both “very young” and “didn’t have much awareness” at that time (though we have to add that Cherrie was right in speaking up if she really did feel uncomfortable).

There’s also a happy ending as he reported that in the end, he and Cherrie, 38, ended up becoming very good friends.

While Shaun didn’t mention what exactly he and Cherrie were shooting at that time, it’s believed that they were filming 2004 Taiwanese idol drama Love Bird, which was written by Sylvia Chang and also starred Rainie Yang and Blackie Chen.
